Sloes and Eggs

Sloe Gin will be on the cards later this week and I also managed the first batch of pickled eggs. The eggs (courtesy of the Church Farm Cottage hens) didn't actually set that well when boiled. I think I may have needed to leave them a little longer. I am sure there will be another batch ready by the weekend. Despite the drop in daylight hours we are still getting an egg a day off each bird.

New Fridge Freezer

Our old Hotpoint has finally given up the ghost. Although the freezer kept frozen stuff frozen (just) it had long since given up the ability to freeze from scratch, which isn't a lot of use to a kitchen gardener. It seems to be working fine and the last surplus chilli from this years plants have been frozen for later use. What a shame we didn't have this earlier in the season in time for the runner bean glut.

Haw Jelly Disaster

Dont' know how or why but this was an unmitigated disaster..................Nothing further to add.
